mothersday

Mother’s Day is just around the corner again (it falls this year on Sunday March 26), and any son, daughter, husband, or partner who surprises her with tickets for a trip away is sure to be in the good books until the next one!

If you’re thinking of arranging a holiday for the special lady in your life, then you might like to consider these three destinations:

Budapest

A beautiful historic destination, which is actually two cities – Buda on one side of the majestic River Danube, and Pest on the other, with the two sides linked by the Chain and Elizabeth Bridges.

The Castle District offers amazing views from the Fisherman’s Bastion over the exquisite Parliament building, one of the largest in Europe, and the street of Váci utca has excellent shopping, fine museums and monuments, churches and synagogues, historic squares and buildings.

Budapest is also rightly famous for its natural warm baths and its spas, where all manner of massages and other treatments are available – just the thing for Mum to pamper herself with!

There are direct flights to Budapest from Dublin with both Aer Lingus and Ryanair.

Milan

Perfect for daughters and mums in particular to travel to together, if both share a love of high fashion and shopping. Milan is rightly renowned as one of the design capitals of the world, and even just browsing through its magnificent fashion outlets can be an enjoyable experience, even if most of the apparel is out of your price range!

Be sure to visit the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II – one of the world’s oldest and most beautiful shopping centres. It has the added benefit of being close to some of Milan’s most famous other landmarks and attractions, such as the Duomo and the Teatro Alla Scala, which can provide a break from shopping.

Milan can also be reached from Dublin with both Aer Lingus and Ryanair.

Chester

For a trip a little closer to home, or if Mum doesn’t like flying, consider the beautiful city of Chester in the north west of England.

It was founded as a Roman fortress almost 2,000 years ago and extensive Roman walls made of local red sandstone are still standing. Chester is also known for its large number of Tudor-style half-timber buildings which stand all over town, including in the shopping district known as ‘The Rows’.

It’s a popular destination to visit all year round, and is in easy reach of Dublin as it’s just a further 90-minute drive away if you first take the Holyhead ferry.

Remember though, that no matter where Mum might go for her holiday, you should make sure that she and her travelling companion(s) are carrying comprehensive travel insurance for their trip.

A policy with Insure My Holiday will entitle them to some of the best levels of cover at some of the best rates around. And if Mum is of a certain age, we’ve got her covered too, as we are leaders in providing Travel Insurance for Over 65s, Travel Insurance for Over 70s, and Travel Insurance for Over 75s, in both single trip travel insurance and annual multi-trip travel insurance.
